Flying to Iowa

Ryan and I flew to Sanborn on Saturday afternoon to eat dinner with the family and then headed back to Denver. We left Denver at about 10:30am mountain and arrived at 2pm mountain time. We surprised my family...we flew over Jay's restaurant and I called dad to have him come outside and look up...he was shocked!!! We were in town enough time to just eat dinner and visit for a little bit and then we headed back around 6:30 Denver time. The sunset as we left was gorgeous and it was overall a good flight. We had a head wind both ways so it took us 3 1/2 out and 3 1/2 hours back. We flew in a Cessna 182...such a blast and priviledge to do these things. Here are a few pics.
One is of the sunset and the other is a picture of the town of Sanborn, Iowa (where I grew up) from the west.

Fishing out of Seward, AK

We went fishing on Monday out of Seward, AK. It was a 2 hour drove to the south of Anchorage, we put the boat in, then about an hour boat ride out to our cove that we fished in. It was the first time I have been fishing in the Ocean (Salt Water). I took a ton of motion sickness stuff and it actually worked. I had to rest a little on the boat, but it could have been a lot worse. We were catching Silver Salmon also known as CoHo Salmon. The limit is 6 per person. Ryan caught 5, I caught 2, and his dad caught 3 which he is going to give us. So basically we are coming back to Colorado with at least 40 pounds of good fresh salmon!! Here are some pictures for you to enjoy!!

Hatcher's Pass HIke

Today we drove about 70 miles outside of Anchorage to the north to do a hike across Hatchers Pass. What a hike!! Took us about 2 hours and 15 to reach the top and about 1 hour 45 to come down. We inclined quite a bit, not sure how much. There were steep inclines, boulders we had to manuever over, mud, creeks, snow...yes, even snow. Our first stop was at Lower Lake...the water was so clear. You should be able to tell in the photo. Then we went about 30 minutes more up to Higher Lake where the lake was still frozen and it started snowing on us. It was an awesome hike and I am sure my body will hate me tomorrow. We had an excellent time. Enjoy the pictures.

Fun in Alaska

Last Thursday Ryan and I headed up North to Willow, AK to a cabin on Crystal Lake. The cabin is owned by good friends of the Long's. It was such a fun, peaceful, and rugged experience. I am not a huge camper, but this was as close as I will get in awhile. We didn't really camp, but staying in a cabin with no electricity or running water counts for something. We went up to the cabin with Ryan's sister Taylor, KC and Tucker (the newlyweds), and all of Tucker's friends with their RV's. We fished, swam, ate, sat around the fire pit, and shot off some huge fireworks. Shooting fireworks is a little difficult since it doesn't really get dark. I think I am getting used to it being light out all the time except for I don't go to bed before midnight because I just lose track of the time. Here are a few pictures. The one pic of the small wooden shed is actually a Sauna that the owner built himself. He heats it by fire wood. It got up to 160 degrees while we were there. He also has a homemade hot tub heated by a cooking stove...pretty cool!! Even though the temps outside are only in the 60's and sometimes low 70's up here, the lake water stays about 60 degrees or warmer because of the 24 hour sunlight it receives. Enjoy the pictures and hopefully more to come later.

Wedding Day

KC and Tucker got married on Tuesday evening. This has been a great vacation so far. The wedding was amazing and it was held at a beautiful resort in Girdwood, AK. It was called the Alyeska Resort. The one pic is from our view in the hotel room we were in. Everything turned out great!! Here are few pics and more to come as we head north to a cabin for the next few days. Enjoy!!
